Tabaré Perlas

General Manager
West-Eastern Divan Orchestra

Since 2008, Uruguayan-German conductor and arts manager Tabaré Perlas has been CEO of the Daniel Barenboim Stiftung (Foundation) Berlin, which as part of its international foundation network runs several musical education projects initiated by Daniel Barenboim, most importantly the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin.

Following studies in musicology at the University of Montevideo, Perlas continued his education studying orchestral conducting and arts management at the renowned music academies of Nuremberg and Weimar. After graduating in 1999, he served as project manager for the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded that same year in Weimar, where he met Daniel Barenboim. He has been closely associated with the orchestra as its general manager ever since. The project’s international success story has proven that there is a way for the countries of the Middle East to come together and engage in a dialogue.

From 2001 to 2007, Perlas also managed the international tours of the Staatskapelle Berlin in the concert office of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. As a conductor, he has appeared internationally with a number of orchestras.
