The invisibility of mental illness and mental wellness among children, adolescents, and young adults living with cancer

Dr. Barnett focuses on the mental health journey of adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer. She works to instill confidence in this group, ages 15-39 years old, to connect with their stories and recognize the uncertainties that cancer may bring. In this session, Barnett embraced the concept of the dialectic, in which two conflicting things are true at the same time, and their power. The challenges that come with accepting a dialectic is applicable to adolescents and young adults regardless of whether they are living with cancer.
