A Celebration of Circus at the Summer Nostos Festival

In June of 2015, Stavros Niarchos Park opened its gates to the public for the first time, for the four-day Light Up the Night festival, and the people of Athens were offered a sneak preview of the future.

In a gesture of friendship and support for the project, Swiss high-wire artist David Dimitri, the son of Switzerland’s beloved clown Dimitri, donated to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC( and the people of Greece a mesmerizing 280-meter wire-walk from the treetops in the park to the top of the SNFCC’s Energy Canopy.

Since then, circus artists have been featured every year in what has become known as the Summer Nostos Festival. This hourlong program will take us back to some of the favorite and most memorable moments in circus that all of us have enjoyed together at the magnificent outdoor spaces at the SNFCC over the past five years. You will witness David Dimitri’s journey on the wire from many perspectives, including his own unique vantage point. Join us as we celebrate the beauty and artistry of the cutting-edge Barcode Circus Company, and the joyful excitement of award-winning physical comedians Compagnie Soralino.
