Kampire

East Africa's classical music meets western electronic music.

Kampire

DJ Kampire is the hot name in the Uganda dancing scene right now: She has been making Ugandans dance since 2015. Kampire is a key member of the capital’s Nyege Nyege collective and has been showcasing her talent across the spectrum of Eastern Africa's electronic music scene.

Kampire's sets mix perfectly nostalgic and contemporary African elements. Her music style is powerful and bass-heavy: the kind of music that, no matter how tired your legs are, will make you want to dance. She is particularly interested in how classical Eastern African music -like Congolese rumba or soukous- intersects with Western electronic music. The result is a rich, hedonistic display of contemporary music.

After honing her craft in Hollywood, she opened for Jojo Abot's Kampala Women's Day concert, rocked the Eternal Disco stage at the Nyege Nyege International Music Festival in Jinja, appeared in the Amani Festival in Goma, Congo, in the African Bass Culture festival in Burkina Faso, and opened for international acts like Diplo and DJ Maphorisa in Uganda.

Kampire is a pioneer of the new wave of Eastern African music, and an advocate of gender equality and feminism.
