Charlotte Rampling - Sonia Wieder-Atherton: The Night Dances

GNO’s Alternative Stage is hosting two iconic figures of the global art scene, actress Charlotte Rampling and musician Sonia Wieder-Atherton, in a unique performance that combines the intensity of Sylvia Plath’s poetry and the forcefulness of Benjamin Britten’s music, titled The Night Dances.

The talented Tessa Charlotte Rampling, began her career as a model only to become one of the most famous artistic figures. Having participated in a series of critically acclaimed films as well as having released an album, her restless artistic nature has always looked for meaningful ways to be expressed.

Sonia Wieder-Atherton is a renowned musician and violoncellist. Early on in her career she found herself investigating form and sound while she constantly pushes boundaries, venturing with her cello into other artistic forms, like her collaboration with Charlotte Rampling.

The Night Dances is an hour-long partnership between the two artists, with transfixing recitations of Sylvia Plath’s poems by Charlotte Rampling, and the performance of selected movements from Benjamin Britten’s Suites No. 2 and No. 3 for solo cello by the adventurous Sonia Wieder-Atherton.
