Saul Williams “MartyrLoserKing”

Activist artist Saul Williams is visiting the Great Lawn stage to present his latest work titled MartyrLoserKing, in a performance that will engage the audience.
He’s a rapper, singer-songwriter, musician, slam poet, writer, and actor. He graduated from Morehouse College with a BA in acting and philosophy and then moved to New York City where he earned an MFA in acting from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Still, Williams remains a poet at heart. He wraps his recordings in metaphors and allusions to themes both subtle and pronounced, mixing poetry and alternative hip hop.
MartyrLoserKing is Williams’ sixth studio album. It is a multimedia project that engages the digital dialogue between the 1st and 3rd Worlds, and the global street sounds that yoke the two, through the main character of the artistic narration, a computer hacker with the screen name mrtyr_lsr_kng. The music genre of the album, much like the musical identity of the artist himself, isn’t limited to just one category but rather combines characteristics of different genres that aim to make the audience feel the energy behind the lyrics and the concern behind the creation.
