Wilza Fumo

Since 2021, Wilza Fumo has served as Director of Mental Health at the Mozambique Ministry of Health, working to reduce disparities in access and improve psychiatric care quality amid limited resources, poverty, natural disasters, and armed conflict. Dr. Fumo actively advocates for embedding mental health across Ministry of Health programs and increasing national investment. As Head of the Mental Health Department, she brings strong management experience and a research portfolio spanning task shifting, substance use, suicide behavior, autism, violence, community-based interventions, and the mental–physical health interface. She has served as a co-investigator on major implementation science grants and has overseen the scale-up of Mental Wellness Tools and evidence-based interventions in Mozambique.
