Senior Guest Research Scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Special Advisor at the Forum for the Future of Agriculture

Tassos Haniotis is a Senior Guest Research Scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis and a Special Adviser on Strategy for Sustainable Productivity at the Forum for the Future of Agriculture. Having retired in 2022 as Director for Strategy and Policy Analysis from European Commission Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, he brings long professional experience in agricultural policy, EU-US agricultural trade policy relations, food security, farm policy evaluation, and commodity market analysis.  

He previously held posts as Head of Unit in Agricultural Policy Perspectives and Agricultural Trade Policy Analysis, Deputy Head of Cabinet for Commissioner Franz Fischler, and Agricultural Counsellor of the EU Delegation in Washington, DC. 

He is a Fellow of the European Association of Agricultural Economists and holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the School of Agronomy at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He holds an Economics degree from the Athens University of Economics and Business, MS and PhD degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia in the United States, and was post-doc visiting Fellow at the Centre for European Agricultural Studies at Wye College.
