Tassos Anastassiadis
Associate professor and Phrixos Papachristidis Chair at McGill University
Since 2011, Tassos Anastassiadis has been an Associate Professor of History and the Phrixos Papachristidis Chair in Modern Greek Studies at McGill University in Montreal. Having studied and worked in the US, France, Greece, and Canada, he is sensitive to questions of human mobility and its role in institutional innovation as well as social transformation. His research covers religious activism, educational globalization in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Greater War in the Balkans. With initial generous support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), he has also been piloting the interdisciplinary digital archiving and storytelling project Immigrec, producing a virtual museum of Greek immigration to Canada, training in the process numerous undergraduate and graduate students. His first book La réforme orthodoxe: Église, État et société en Grèce à l’époque de la confessionnalisation post-ottomane (1833-1940), won the Fonds de Recherche du Québec Prix Louise-Dandurand in 2022.
