Nicolas Fillion
Associate Professor, Philiosophy, Simon Fraser University, Canada
Nicolas has been at Simon Fraser University (SFU) since 2013, after completing his PhD in philosophy at Western University. His main research contributions are in the philosophy of science and applied mathematics, with additional work in formal logic, decision and game theory, critical thinking, philosophy of language, and the history of logic, mathematics, and science. He has recently been learning Ancient Greek and teaching ancient Greek philosophy. In 2019, Nic received the Cormack Award for Excellence in Teaching. Nic is active in outreach, regulation, and curricular initiatives that promote philosophy and critical thinking in British Columbia high schools. He directs the SFU Ethics Bowl project and serves as Chair of Ethics Bowl Canada (ethicsbowl.ca), a national non-profit operating in 20+ cities across 8 provinces. He serves on the council of the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science (past President) and is Vice-President of the Society for Exact Philosophy. In 2025, he is Chair of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Grant adjudication committee and Program Chair for the Canadian Philosophical Association’s annual meeting.
