Malumbo Mkandawire
Enterprise Development Programs Officer at CAMFED Malawi
Malumbo Mkandawire is a climate champion from Mzimba district in Malawi and was supported in her secondary and tertiary education by CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education). She earned a degree in Agricultural Sciences from EARTH University in Costa Rica, deepening her understanding of the environment's fragility. Armed with knowledge and experience, Malumbo returned to her climate-impacted community in Malawi and established her own sustainable business focused on poultry, pigs, and compost production. She actively promotes climate-smart farming techniques and encourages other young women to pursue careers in the agricultural sector.
Currently, Malumbo is working with CAMFED Malawi as the Enterprise Development Programs Officer, connecting girls and young women to educational and leadership opportunities, as well as supporting them to grow businesses as individuals or in cooperatives. She actively collaborates with traditional leaders and community members to drive development initiatives and tackle issues affecting women and girls. Malumbo aims to support entire families and communities to build resilience to the effects of climate change and rise out of poverty.
