Lídia Gouveia

Lídia Gouveia, MD, PhD, is dedicated to addressing disparities in mental health access and improving psychiatric care quality in Mozambique, especially among vulnerable populations affected by natural disasters and conflict. As Head of the Mental Health Department at the Ministry of Health (2004–2020), she gained extensive management and community-based intervention experience. She has advocated for integrating mental health into national health strategies and built academic partnerships with the University of Porto and University of Minho, supporting training in Psychiatry, Mental Health, and Neuroscience. She has supervised over 30 specialists and led psychiatric technician training programs in Maputo, Nampula, and Beira.
