Joanna Sleigh

Dr. Joanna Sleigh is a Scientific Collaborator at ETH Zurich's Health Ethics and Policy Lab and at the Future Cities Laboratory Global. She also serves as the Director of Communications for the AI Ethics & Policy Network. Her work bridges the fields of visualization, ethics, technology, and communication, with a specialized background in Visual and Media Anthropology (MA, Freie Universität Berlin) and a Doctor of Sciences (PhD) from ETH Zurich. Dr. Sleigh's research focuses on designing and developing digital tools to facilitate ethical deliberation and decision-making, particularly for ethical data governance in health research (e.g., her work on the Health Data Ethics Map). She is also active in public communication and policy engagement, translating bioethical and technological issues into accessible visualizations and resources for broader audiences, including her work on an ethics guidance document for the World Health Organization on AI for health. Her interdisciplinary approach emphasizes using information visualization and human-centered design to promote responsible use of emerging technologies.
