Director of Youth Engagement at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Global Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Child Mind Institute

Delice Lumbu Mayamba was born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She is a youth coach at the School of Hard Knocks (SoHK) in Cape Town, an organization that uses sport, mentorship, and mental health education to equip young people with the tools to thrive. Her journey into youth work has been shaped by leadership, service, and a deep desire to see others believe in their own potential. Growing up in South Africa with Congolese roots taught her early on what it means to navigate identity, belonging, and resilience. Those lessons have inspired her calling to work with youth. She served as Head Girl 2022 at J.G. Meiring High School. Soon after, she joined the Adonis Musati Project, a nonprofit organization that supports refugees and marginalized youth through support groups. There, she learned the true depth of leadership and community. Through their programs, she developed skills in facilitation, team-building, and youth empowerment. More importantly, she learned how to understand the invisible struggles many young people face, especially those navigating displacement, trauma, and uncertainty. What she loves most about youth work is the opportunity to connect and create.
