Cibele Vieira
Creative Center Artist in Residency at Mount Sinai, NewYork-Presbyterian, and North Central Bronx Hospitals
Cibele Vieira is an American Brazilian–born multidisciplinary artist whose practice extends beyond the studio, emphasizing community engagement and the transformative power of art. She has exhibited in New York City at Petzel, Front Room, and Christopher Henry galleries, as well as Ateliê 397 in São Paulo. Her work is included in the collections of the Ado Malagoli and Oscar Niemeyer Museums in Brazil, and the Kiyosato Museum in Japan. She has received support from the NYC Corps Grant (2021) and the Queens Council on the Arts (2020). Since 2013, she has worked as an artist-in-residence in New York hospitals, including NewYork-Presbyterian, Mount Sinai, and North Central Bronx. Influenced by Joseph Beuys’ “social sculpture” and inspired by artists such as Lygia Clark and Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Vieira sees the artist as an agent of connection and healing. With a decade of experience in health care settings, she focuses on accessibility and empowerment, creating visual and performative interventions that invite participation without imposing it. Her work bridges art and everyday life, fostering reflection, expression, and collective care within challenging environments.
