David Rockefeller Professor, Physician in Chief, and Head of the Allen and Frances Adler Lab of Blood and Vascular Biology at The Rockefeller University

Barry S. Coller, MD, is a physician scientist and the Physician in Chief for The Rockefeller University Hospital, where he leads efforts to connect scientific discovery with better health outcomes for patients and communities. His research focuses on how platelets help stop bleeding and how this same process can sometimes create dangerous clots that lead to heart attacks and strokes. His work opened the door to new therapies for preventing harmful clotting, which are now used in cardiac care around the world. Coller also directs Rockefeller’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science, which is dedicated to moving discoveries from the lab into real benefits for society by building strong, community-informed research partnerships. He leads the Clinical Scholars program, a three-year training experience that prepares early-career physicians and Ph.D. scientists to become leaders in patient-oriented research. Through this work, Coller is helping shape a more equitable and people-centered scientific and clinical ecosystem, one that bridges research excellence with compassionate care and public purpose.
