Mentorship is one of the most enduring forces shaping medicine. It molds competent physicians into compassionate healers while keeping them grounded as human beings. Why is mentorship so important not only in medicine but also in life? How do we find a mentor? What does it mean to act as a mentor? What are the qualities needed to be an effective mentor? Two orthopedic surgeons talk about the bonds of mentorship and how it can ripple outward from individuals to institutions, including in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s (SNF) collaboration with Hospital for Special Surgery.
