The new age crises—cyber enabled human trafficking & child sexual exploitation and abuse
Over 300 million children have experienced online harm, with a significant fraction of them subjected to sexual abuse, reports Dr. Sunitha Krishnan. The technology that defines modern existence has on the one hand connected the world in ways that makes everyone dependent on each other, and has on the other shrunk safe spaces not only for the adults, but also for children. The platforms that have connected the world—social media, instant messaging applications, video sites, dating sites, matrimonial sites, and online games—have also become spaces where criminals and predators can prey upon vulnerable people. Children are vulnerable to being sexually exploited online, with content generated being further exploited for commercial gain. Meanwhile, cyber-enabled trafficking of children and adults has reached an all-time high. Dr. Sunitha Krishnan aims to shed light on perspectives and solutions for a very sensitive—and urgent—topic.
