'When you set out for Ithaca, pray that the way be long.'

Based on Cavafy's masterpiece, the play Ithaca – Long Journey Home is a work of our own creation which tells the story of Ulysses's return journey from Troy to Ithaca, and all the adventures he encounters, and the knowledge he acquires on the way. It tells one of the greatest stories of all time, a tale of endurance, companionship, and hope, with the archetypal element of 'nostos,’ the longing for return, so potent to Greece and to all seafaring and displaced people. Most wondrous of all, the story of Ulysses's return is still to be found in folk songs, fados, ballads and sagas all over the world. Ιt has never been forgotten.

Like life itself, the performance has lightness and darkness, humor and pathos, and we see an older and wiser Ulysses returning to his beloved Penelope after twenty years. The play is performed by Cerebral Palsy Greece's Tuesday Players, a mixed group of people with and without disabilities who love to perform. They cooperate and complement one another, enjoying the rehearsals even more than the performances as they discover together the power of artistic collaboration and the joy of collective creation. Each scene of the play is set to classical and contemporary music and comprises speech, drama and dance. At the Open Door Center, we believe that art and culture are defining factors in the life of every human being, and we are happy and honored to present our work at the SNF Nostos 2026, and to discover together 'what these Ithacas can mean."
