Roni Mann

Director of Humanities, Philosophy and Political Theory
Barenboim-Said Akademie

Roni Mann is Professor of Philosophy and Political Thought and the Director of Humanities at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin (est. 2016). She designs and oversees the implementation of the Akademie’s liberal arts curriculum and teaches its core philosophy classes. Together with Maestro Daniel Barenboim, she elaborates the account of the relationship between music and humanism that has animated his shared endeavors with Edward Said. Prof. Mann was previously a research fellow at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), and had taught a range of subjects at Harvard University, including political philosophy, social theory and US constitutional history. Her doctorate dissertation (Harvard Law School, 2011) is an intellectual genealogy of banking deregulation. Her work A Non-Ideal Theory of Constitutional Adjudication (2018) concerns the response of courts to political pressures. Her research interests lie at the intersection of normative discourses: political, legal, social, existential.
