Harold S. Koplewicz, MD, is the founding president and medical director of the Child Mind Institute, the only independent national nonprofit dedicated to child and adolescent mental health. One of the leading child and adolescent psychiatrists in the United States, Dr. Koplewicz was previously founding director of the NYU Child Study Center and served as director of the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research. He is frequently turned to as an expert on youth mental health by leading media outlets including NBC News, CNN, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. He is the author of several books, including Scaffold Parenting: Raising Resilient, Self-Reliant and Secure Kids in an Age of Anxiety, from Penguin Random House. The Child Mind Institute’s award-winning website, childmind.org, has 2 million unique visitors each month and has brought accessible information to more than 68 million parents, teachers and mental health professionals, as well as launching celebrity social media campaigns like Dare to Share that reach more than 250 million people each year. Dr. Koplewicz is also a leader in international children’s mental health efforts, working with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to create the Children’s Mental Health Initiative, a collaboration between the Child Mind Institute and Greek mental health professionals to improve access to care, capacity, and mental health literacy and awareness.
