The enigmatic frying pan-shaped vessels stand out in the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Cycladic Art. Their purpose remains open to many interpretations. They may have served as mirrors, ritual objects, or something entirely different. On their circular surfaces, Cycladic people carved the world as they observed it: the sun and the stars, the waves of the sea, everything they saw and heard around them. In this way, they left their own mark—a glimpse into their world that has reached us across the centuries.

What about us? These days, how often do we stop to take in the world around us? How often do we look up at the sky?

As part of SNF Nostos 2026, the Museum of Cycladic Art invites children and families to an open, experiential workshop. Through various activities, participants discover how our senses are interconnected: how a sound can become an image and how a movement can leave a trace.

What we’ll do together:
Participants create sounds with megaphones and translate the rhythm into drawings. Inspired by frying pan-shaped vessels, they create their own “constellations” on circular surfaces. Next, they imprint their own traces in clay as part of a shared composition that keeps growing—like a collective sky filled with our marks and our stories.

Info:
The workshop is open to the public by walking in, requires no pre-registration, and is open to everyone regardless of skill level.

Workshop implementation: Vivian Emmanouilidou, Christina Tsinisizeli
