Olayinka Omigbodun is Nigeria’s first female Professor of Psychiatry and Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. As one of very few child and adolescent psychiatrists in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) prior to 2014, Olayinka was a pioneer in child and adolescent mental health in the region. In 1999, she started the first Child and Adolescent Mental Health clinic at West Africa’s oldest teaching hospital, the University College Hospital, Ibadan. From 2011 to 2020, Olayinka was pioneer director of the University of Ibadan’s Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CCAMH), a multidisciplinary centre for training, research, and service. Over 130 professionals from 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa have trained on a master’s programme in CCAMH. From 2010 to 2014, Olayinka was president of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) and in 2020 she received the International Contribution Award of IACAPAP in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in the promotion of child and adolescent psychiatry in the developing world. She also received the Leadership Award from the African Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (AACAMH) in 2019. She has over 130 peer-reviewed publications.
