California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom: Transforming youth mental health care and setting an example for the world

Friday June 23, 11:05, Stavros Niarchos Hall GNO

With her deep personal commitment as a mother of four children, Jennifer Newsom, First Partner of California, recognized the indispensable role of mental well-being in shaping the lives of young individuals and created the California for All Kids initiative.

While not all children may require immediate mental health services, every child can benefit from the proactive measures of prevention and anti-stigma efforts. She highlighted the significance of cultivating a healthy lifestyle as a pillar of mental well-being. She underlined the role of nourishing meals, connection with nature, and mindfulness practices in nurturing the development of children. Recognizing the detrimental effects of isolation and loneliness on mental health, the initiative fights these challenges by utilizing public parks and spaces to enhance community bonds, promote inclusivity, and foster a sense of belonging among young individuals.

Finally, Mark Ghaly, Secretary California Health & Human Services Agency addressed the importance of working towards creating a system where children can answer their questions about mental health, feel safe, and that they belong to a society that supports their needs and worries.
