Circus Abyssinia - Tulu

Brothers Bibi and Bichu started Circus Abyssinia, the first circus created entirely by Ethiopian artists, to celebrate Ethiopia's extraordinary cultures and to weave the dreams of its cast through stunning feats of acrobatic daring, dance, and contortion.

Circus Abyssinia has traveled from Addis Ababa around the world and comes to the SNF Nostos stage in Athens in 2021 bringing its shows Ethiopian Dreams and Tulu.

Ethiopian Dreams is inspired by the real-life story of Bibi and Bichu and follows the magical journey of two Ethiopian brothers whose dream of joining the circus is made real by the Man in the Moon.

Tulu tells the story of the first African woman to win Olympic gold, the legendary Derartu Tulu. Meaning both “valley” and “mountain heights,” the name “Tulu” plays out in the show's dazzling feats of speed and flight, in a runner's pursuit of her aspiration all the way from Ethiopia's Arsi highlands to her triumph at the Olympic Games.

This summer, audiences at SNF Nostos will have the chance to take a journey with Circus Abyssinia through northeastern Africa and beyond, charmed by glimpses of rich Ethiopian cultures and a display of strength of will.
