Girls Rock! Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls: The Concert

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls and the Athens Conservatoire present a live rock concert featuring 8 girl bands (8-12 years old)! The bands are formed over the course of an intensive six-day music training program, through which the girls learn skills on musical instruments and songwriting. At the end of the camp, they get to perform their own songs in a rock concert.

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a non-profit music and mentoring program that empowers girls and women through music education, volunteerism and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration. The camp was founded in 2004 by a group of New York City women and was named after Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton, a blues and rock performer/songwriter, who was one of the first women to play the music that came to be known as “rock n’ roll.” Since 2005, the organization has served more than 1,000 girls through a variety of programs.

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls and the Athens Conservatoire are bringing together girls and women from different communities, making no discriminations.
