The legendary John Cale, the Welsh rock star who’s left a mark both on the worldwide music industry and modern culture in general, will perform onstage at SNFCC’s Great Lawn along with his band, with a song set spanning his half-century career. From the Velvet Underground and Drella to classic material and songs from his forthcoming album, he will appear at the Summer Nostos Festival for a rare retrospective concert.

Cale, Lou Reed’s sparring partner, along with whom he co-founded one of the most influential bands in the history of music – the Velvet Underground – is a composer, a singer, a songwriter, and a record producer, with a focus on rock, drone, classic, avant-garde and electronic music. In 1996, he was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Velvet Underground.

Since he left the Velvet Underground, he’s released 16 solo albums. Cale is perhaps best known for Paris 1919 and a cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, as well as a record trilogy he released in the mid-70’s: Fear, Slow Dazzle, and Helen of Troy. As a producer, he has collaborated with Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Squeeze, Johnathan Richman and Goya Dress, among others.

His last work, M:FANS, is Cale’s 16th solo studio album. Released in January 2016 and produced by Cale himself, the album includes new versions of songs from his 1982 album, Music for a New Society.
