Armonia Atenea, George Petrou: Rock Goes Baroque

Known for its baroque performances, Armonia Atenea-The Friends of Music Orchestra, presents, under the direction of award-winning conductor George Petrou, a spirited concert with the baroque renditions of the Beatles’ and Elvis Presley’s hits, thanks to the brilliant arrangements by Slovak pianist and composer Peter Breiner.

Playful concerti grossi -in the style of baroque composers such as Corelli, Vivaldi and Handel- and songs like “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Here Comes the Sun,” are uniquely performed by Armonia Atenea’s soloists using period instruments.

The pianist, conductor, and composer Peter Breiner, is one of the most multifarious music personalities of our times. Released in 1993 under his direction, the album Beatles Go Baroque, based on favorite Beatles songs, went best-seller, with over 250,000 copies. Soon after, the album Elvis Goes Baroque followed. In 2004, together with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, he recorded all the national anthems of the world; a recording that was used at the 2004 Athens Olympics medal ceremonies.
